During the meeting held during Sheikh Abdullah’s working visit to London, the two sides discussed the friendly relations and strategic partnership between the UAE and the UK, as well as various opportunities for the comprehensive and sustainable prosperity of both countries, they the people.
Sheikh Abdullah and Shapps reviewed the cooperation between the two countries in various fields including economy, industry, trade, investment and energy.
Their discussions also touched on the issue of climate change and the importance of continuing and accelerating international climate action to protect the future of the planet, emphasizing the UAE’s readiness to host the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) at Expo City Dubai this year.
Sheikh Abdullah and Grant Shapps emphasized that climate action is a shared priority for both countries as it is directly linked to economic growth and accelerating social progress, but requires stronger multilateral cooperation.
They also discussed several issues of common concern and their joint cooperation in international organizations.
Sheikh Abdullah underscored the UAE’s desire to deepen its partnership with the UK to create a prosperous future and ensure the stability and prosperity of the two friendly nations.
He also expressed his anticipation for the UK’s participation in COP28, confirming that the UAE looks forward to hosting the global event designed to translate commitments into concrete action.
Shapps welcomed the visit of Sheikh Abdullah and his delegation, affirming the strong relationship and growing partnership between the two friendly countries in various fields.
He also expressed hope that the visit would help strengthen the cooperation and partnership between the two countries, wished the UAE a successful COP28, and praised its pioneering projects in the field of renewable and clean energy around the world and its extraordinary contribution to global climate action vision.
The meeting was attended by Saeed Al Hajri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Commercial Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Majid Al Suwaidi, Director General and Special Representative of COP28, and Mansoor Abulhoul, UAE Ambassador to the UK.
