The local authority has announced that a new 150,000 sq ft community center with retail and food outlets will be developed in Al Rahba on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi.
As part of an ongoing program to improve the quality of life for Abu Dhabi residents, the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) will develop the center in partnership with Lulu Group International and the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO). The center will cover a total area of 150,000 square feet , will feature a 35,000-square-foot Lulu Supermarket, 26 retail stores, 17 food and beverage outlets and a 15,000-square-foot community service area.

“We are delighted to partner with DMT and Lulu to launch the Al Rahba project, which will create a range of sustainable business opportunities for local investors and contribute to the economic and social development of Abu Dhabi,” said AlShamsi.
The ceremony was attended by Yusuffali MA, Chairman of Lulu Group International, Dr. Salem Khalfan Al Kaabi, Director, Operational Affairs, DMT, Sultan Huwair, Director, Municipal Asset Contracts Department, Real Estate Sector, and Musataha Partnerships, Head Raed Al Mohtar ADIO. The agreement grants Lulu the right to develop the land for 32.5 years.
“We are very pleased to have been chosen by DMT and ADIO to develop this unique project and we have already started the pre-project work to ensure that this will be one of the best world class community centers to meet the diverse needs. The proposed community center will be operational by the third quarter of 2025 and will cater to the needs of people from Al Rahba, Shahama, Ajban, Al Rahba Hospital and nearby communities.
The design of the project includes shaded walkways, beautiful water features, an open terrace restaurant, and access from all sides of the property, allowing pedestrians to easily access the play area with the children, providing a wide range of amenities and activities for the community to enjoy . It will also have electric vehicle charging stations and dedicated parking spaces for bicycles and scooters.
Lulu Group was awarded the project during a tender process initiated by ADIO. The announcement comes after Lulu Hypermarket was previously recognized for its commitment to quality and business excellence, having recently received the prestigious Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award (SKEA).
ADIO works with other Abu Dhabi government entities to manage and promote investment opportunities through the Musataha agreement.
