A senior official from the Government of the United Arab Emirates is in Bermuda for this year’s conference, along with representatives from the Middle East business hub climate summit.
Abdulaziz Alnuaimi, Assistant Undersecretary to the UAE Minister of Economy, will lead the delegation and will deliver a keynote speech on the second and final day of the summit tomorrow at the Princess Hotel in Hamilton.
The officials were invited by David Burt as part of a move to build stronger ties with the UAE.
The prime minister said the event was an opportunity to explore potential areas of cooperation with the island.
Range of joint efforts could include renewable energy and blue economy ahead of UN climate change meeting It is scheduled for November and December in Dubai, the most populous city in the UAE.
Other partnerships could include infrastructure and tourism development, and the expansion of UAE-Bermuda insurance companies.
Mr. Alnuaimi has over ten years of experience in the UAE, Brazil, Japan, UK and US.
As Assistant Deputy Minister, Mr. Al Nuaimi led and advised on strategic partnerships aimed at unlocking the wealth of the UAE and leveraging global expertise.
The government said his skills in sovereign wealth investing and private equity would prove valuable.

Mr Burt’s invitation is said to underscore the government’s commitment to diversifying the economy and expanding investment opportunities.
The proposal aims to build stronger ties with the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, a regional political and economic union.
Welcoming the delegates, Mr Burt said: “Their visit is an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between Bermuda and the UAE.
“The Government looks forward to the delegation’s attendance at the Bermuda Climate Summit, including your keynote address, as well as a productive session where we will discuss areas where our two jurisdictions can work together.”
The climate summit is said to demonstrate the island’s commitment to climate resilience and sustainability, and the Bermuda government believes that cooperation and investment opportunities in this area can be developed with the UAE.
The delegation will also hold meetings with government ministers and private sector leaders on areas of mutual interest.
