Abu Dhabi University Faculty of Engineering Hosts Second Annual Hackathon

  • The hackathon saw the participation of over 750 students divided into 100 representing over 57 leading schools in the UAE

Abu Dhabi, UAE: To coincide with the UAE’s Year of Sustainability, the College of Engineering (CoE) at Abu Dhabi University (ADU) hosted its second annual College of Engineering Hackathon to continue providing students with valuable opportunities, real-world specific challenges. Hackathons provide an exceptional learning experience that fosters innovation and hone problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills among high school students.

The event saw impressive participation, with more than 750 students divided into 100 teams representing 57 schools competing against the clock to tackle sustainable development challenges with innovative solutions and help achieve the 17th UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs). This year’s event provides an additional avenue for Cycle 2 students to sow the early seeds of future thinkers with a sustainable mindset. In addition, the top ten schools were recognized for their excellence in the competition and received awards and trophies from ADU.

By empowering young people to shape a sustainable future, the Hackathon aligns with ADU’s sustainability goals and demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to environmental stewardship, social progress and the growth of the nation’s knowledge-based economy. The competition advances ADU’s efforts in sustainability education and research, while developing future engineers who can meet sustainability challenges.

The Faculty of Engineering is the largest engineering college in the UAE.
