This is part of the exhibition’s contribution to sustainability in the heritage profession and traditional industries, celebrating the Year of Sustainability and highlighting the exhibition’s theme ‘Sustainability and heritage…the desire to regenerate’.
The competition aims to showcase the diversity, richness and beauty of the UAE’s environment and heritage. It also seeks to strengthen efforts to preserve elements of the UAE’s heritage, ensure that its industries are passed on from generation to generation, and stimulate innovation in the best heritage craftsmanship.
The competition also encourages the exchange of knowledge and expertise between individuals and companies in the craft sector and raises awareness of the importance of preserving traditional crafts.
The conditions and criteria for participation and award are as follows: Artwork must be produced in 2023 and exhibited during the 20th ADIHEX, using natural materials in any handicraft related to UAE heritage.
Consideration is given to the degree of perfection and consistency between the traditional materials used and their quality, as well as workmanship, manufacturing precision, use of raw materials and compliance with safety standards. Sculptures must be sized for actual use. Artwork should express the style of ancient lifestyles or traditional occupations, contribute to the sustainability of handicrafts, and use natural materials to highlight the details of the UAE environment and its components.
In addition, if the production of the product is sufficient for tourists to purchase, it must be available to consumers at a reasonable price. Individuals and companies of all nationalities can participate.
In last year’s competition, “Al Ghadeer UAE Crafts” won the first place in the Best Sculpture Competition of Traditional Handicrafts, “Bayt Al Khanyar” won the second place, and “Abu Dhabi Artisan Register” won the third place. “
