Agreement brings electrolysers to UAE for first time


The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) announced its support for a strategic partnership agreement between Adnoc, John Cockerill Hydrogen and Strata Manufacturing at the Made in UAE forum in Abu Dhabi to manufacture electrolysers in the UAE for local use and export.

The electrolyzer produces green hydrogen, an energy source made from renewable energy that emits no carbon dioxide when used. The arrangement envisaged by the agreement will promote the development of a green hydrogen economy in the UAE through the domestic manufacture of electrolyzers and support the UAE’s ‘Make in the UAE’ initiative to boost local industry and create an investor-friendly environment.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony witnessed by Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Adnoc Managing Director and Group CEO, Sara Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology, Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Belgian Ministry of Economic Development (added), Antoine Delcourt, Belgian Ambassador to the UAE, and Jean-Luc Maurange, Executive Member of the John Cockerill Group Board of Directors.

It was signed by Hanan Balalaa, Senior Vice President, New Energy and Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage, Adnoc; Ismail Ali Abdulla, Managing Director and CEO, Strata Manufacturing; and Raphael Tilot, CEO, John Cockerill Hydrogen.

Omar Al Suwaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, said: “Accelerating the development of future industries is one of the main objectives of the National Industrial and Advanced Technology Strategy. Therefore, the Ministry is committed to ensuring that the national industrial sector benefits from policies that support future industrial expansion. Innovative solutions and advanced technologies.
