Ahmedskek wins back-to-back UAE Presidents Cup

The Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) hosted more than 100 United Arab Emirates (UAE) national golfers at the HSBC-sponsored UAE Presidents Cup 2023 at Abu Dhabi Golf Club. The 11th edition of the UAE Presidents Cup did not disappoint.

The UAE Golf Federation, at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, organized a full weekend of competition from junior to elite amateur levels. This includes the Main Event, which has Junior, Ladies, Senior and Elite divisions. In addition, the Federation held the Future Falcons 9-hole Championship and the Future Falcons Skills Challenge at the Garden Course. The Future Falcon Skills Challenge allows junior children and families to take part in a fun competition during the UAE Presidents Cup. This skill competition will include chipping, putting and tee shots.

After an 18-hole playoff, Ahmed Skek won the 2023 UAE Presidents Cup for his third win in four years, his third in four years in a row. Alai Al Emadi successfully defended his women’s title, while Rashed al Naqbi won the junior title.

To celebrate this year’s Presidents Cup, the awards ceremony was officiated by His Highnesses Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan and His Excellency Shaikh Fahim Bin Sultan Al Qasimi and Najeeb Busheri, Head of Network Distribution, HSBC Emirates Bank.

But there’s more drama to come….

Ahmad Skaik and Hassan Al Musharrekh were called back to the course on Wednesday, February 22 for an 18-hole playoff following a scoring error on Sunday night. Ahmad Skaik has won the 2023 UAE Presidents Cup with a score of 77-72 in the tournament and 70 (2 under par) in the playoff.

Ahmed said after the tournament: “Golf is a crazy game and you have to be able to adapt to certain things in order to overcome the obstacles that the game puts on you. This weekend was a good example of that.

“It was great to be back on the course full time. I wanted to use this tournament to show everyone that I was fit and ready for the rest of the year and I think I did. I would like to thank Hassan, who A great competitor and my brother in the national team, we have a lot to achieve together this year.

“It is always an honor to win the UAE Presidents Cup and I am grateful for all the support I have received from the EGF and the entire UAE. I would like to thank my family, my coaches and of course my teammates who pushed me on and off the pitch , making me a better person.”

The runner-up was Hassan Al Musharrekh, who scored 73 points 76 points overall and 76 points in the playoffs. Saif Thabit finished in the top three with a total of 155 points and finished third after the countdown.

For the first time, the UAE Presidents Cup has an Elite Invitational category, providing UAE local golfers with the opportunity to participate in the championship. The Best Men’s Invitational was won by Jonathan Selvaraj, who shot one over par over the weekend, while the Best Women’s Invitational was also won by Jamie Camero A score of one.

The overall net winner of the event was Mohammed Darwish with a net total of 130 over two days.

The Senior Division has more than 10 different players over the age of 50 vying for the prize. The senior category winner with a total of 156 points was Saeed al Malik.

Defending champion and winning the women’s title for the third year in a row is Alia Al Emadi. Alia shot a total of 165 shots over two days. The women’s overall score winner is Hamda al Suwaidi with 167 points.

In the growing junior category, Rashed al Naqbi is the 2023 junior champion. Rashid won his first UAE Presidents Cup Junior Championship with a total score of 156.

Sultan al Jassmy was runner-up in the junior category with a total score of 165. Mohammed Thabet received the net bonus for the Junior Division.

Ali Almaazmi triumphed in the Future Falcons Championship, winning the men’s category and Latifa Al Jassmy won the women’s category.
