Great music is in the air in downtown Albert Lea this month! The Thursday Fountain Concerts kick off their summer run June 1 with community bands playing free at Fountain Lake Park in downtown Albert Lea from 5:30pm to 7pm. Schedule includes: Eclipse on June 8th and Papa Greez on June 15th. June 22nd will be Flashback and June 29th will be Good Morning Lunatic Asylum. Grab a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy food and drinks from the food truck at 112 on Broadway. Have a great night every week.

From June 15th to June 25th, “Cinderella” will be performed at the Marion Rose Center for the Performing Arts. Rogers and Hammerstein’s magical musical brings to our stage the touching song once sung by Julie Andrews. Many of you will remember “Ten Minutes Ago”, “It Wasn’t Possible, It Was Possible” and “In My Own Little Corner” which touched our hearts. Along with the great music, there’s a lot of fun and frolic from stepmom and crazy stepsisters with all their antics. This is a family show for all ages. Showings June 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th & 25th at 7:30pm with matinees on Sunday, June 18th & 25th To purchase tickets for the 2 p.m., you may call the Box Office at 507-377-4371 or visit actonbroadway.com to purchase tickets.

Also on June 24 at the Albert Lea Center for the Arts downtown is a Nicole M. Morrison gallery show. Nicole hopes her 42 colorful acrylic pieces will bring a sense of peace and calm to the audience. The Art Center is open Tuesday through Friday 10am-4pm and Saturday 10am-1pm.

On June 22, 7-8 pm, the arts center will also host “The Art of Poetry” by Austin native Tim Brennen. He will talk about how to write and read poetry, and read some of his own work.

Eddie Cochran Days is hosting a 1950s-60s trivia event at 112 Broadway on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

On Thursday, Eclipse will play Friday at Fountain Lake Park at 5:30pm, with cruises starting around 3pm. Drivers can congregate at downtown Broadway. At 7:30 p.m., j. Bell and the Lazy Susan Band will perform at 112 Broadway.

Starting around 2:30 pm on Saturday, the car parade will start in the city center and circle the lake.

There will also be a yard sale at the Freeborn County Historical Museum and Village that same day from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The first Wind Down Wednesday of the summer will be held on Wednesday June 14th from 11am to 8pm 11am to 1pm There will be plenty of children’s activities and music by Ruthless Ruth

From 4pm to 5:30pm, The Hive will host the Pinewood Derby. There will be more than 25 food and artisan vendors.

Finally this month, on Friday 30th June, we will have the Elton John Tribute Band from Mankato on stage at the Marion Ross Theatre. The artist is Garrett Steinberg, grandson of Orrie and Niles Shoff and nephew of chiropractor and county executive Chris Shoff. The theater has never had Elton John on our stage before, so this should be a great new show for us!

I hope you find some fun experiences and great entertainment at Albert Lea in June! Enjoy your summer!

Glen Parsons is the director and board member of the Albert Lea Community Theatre.
