NEW YORK (AP) — The debut of the giant “Bluey” balloon, Lea Michele and Broadway “Funny Girl” actor and legend Dionne Warwick were among the highlights of the year Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
This year’s parade – the 96th – will feature 16 giant character balloons, 28 floats, 40 novelty and traditional inflatables, over 800 clowns, 12 marching bands, 700 clowns, 10 performance groups, and of course And Santa Claus.
New balloon giants joining the lineup on November 24 include Despicable Me 2’s one-eyed Minion Stewart, the new green dinosaur, Apatosaurus, the animated blockbuster “Bluey” and the new “Diary.” A Wimpy Kid” balloon.
Other celebrities include Paula Abdul, who made her parade debut; Fitz and Tantrum; BTR Band; “Blue Clues and You!” host Josh Dela Cruz; Gloria Estefan With her daughter Emily and grandson Sasha; Kirk Franklin; Mario Lopez; Ziggy Marley; and Miss America 2022 Emma Broyles.
Singers Joss Stone, Jordin Sparks and Betty Who and the stars of Peacock’s “Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin” – Adam Devine, Sarah Hyland and Flula Borg – will all be in attendance. Jimmy Fallon & The Roots will celebrate Central Park with floats.
“This November, as we prepare again for the start of the festive season, we are delighted to present another spectacle full of magic and wonder that will help create with loved ones during this special time of the year An eternal memory,” said the executive producer of the Will Coss parade in a statement.
In addition to “Funny Girl,” Broadway will also star the cast of “Beautiful Noise,” “Some Like It Hot,” “The Lion King,” which is celebrating its 25th anniversary on Broadway. Radio City Rockettes will also be parading. This will be Warwick’s third march; she also appeared in 1967 and 1984.
Returning giant balloons include “Ada Twist, Scientist”, “The Boss Baby”, Chase from “Paw Patrol”, Pillsbury Doughboy, Red Titan from “Ryan’s World”, Uncle McDonald, Blue Daddy from “The Smurfs”, “SpongeBob SquarePants” and Pikachu and Eevee.
The Macy’s parade has always been the kickoff to the traditional holiday season, with audiences often forming six rows along the route, cheering on marchers, floats, entertainers and marching bands.
This year’s marching band will represent South Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, California, New York, South Dakota, Florida, Missouri, Texas and Veracruz, Mexico.
