Central Hotels aims to reduce water use by 10% this year

Central Hotels & Resorts, the UAE’s leading hotel management company, has launched a series of programs to support the government’s sustainable tourism plan, while aiming to reduce water consumption by 10% this year.

At this year’s Arabian Travel Market, the group unveiled its sustainability efforts and roadmap for aggressive implementation across its UAE hotels, with a focus on water conservation and zero-waste practices.

“Water conservation is one of the many environmental issues we are currently grappling with. This is an area of ​​sustainability where hotels, staff and guests can directly help the environment by reducing water usage. The Group has installed water saving equipment and fixtures to Conserve water. We also encourage our teams and guests to support these initiatives to achieve significant cost savings,” explained Abdulla Al Abdulla, Chief Operating Officer and Group General Manager.

To reduce water consumption, Central Hotels & Resorts’ three properties include Canal Central Hotel Business Bay, a luxurious five-star hotel along the famous Dubai Canal, C Central Resort The Palm, a beachfront hotel with views of the Palm Jumeirah, and Royal Central Hotel The Palm. The Palm, a five-star hotel in Dubai’s iconic East Crescent, has taken steps, including installing aerators in rooms, to reduce water consumption.

“We are delighted that staff and guests have responded positively to our conservation plan. The culinary team carefully prepares buffet menus based on the number of guests to avoid over-preparation and waste. Guests choose not to change towels daily. We have yet to see water use Water consumption has been significantly reduced, but as long as these practices are maintained, we are on track to achieve our goal of reducing water use by 10% by the end of the year,” Abdulla added.

In addition, the properties have a water treatment plant for irrigation, a linen and towel reuse program, food waste measures, leak detection, and more.

The conservation efforts are in line with the Dubai Sustainable Tourism Initiative, a public-private partnership to support the city’s broader clean energy and sustainable development goals. The plan is built on three core pillars: economic sustainability, social sustainability and environmental sustainability.

The initiative aims to reduce the environmental impact of tourism in Dubai, promote social inclusion and cultural awareness, and support the local economy. The program involves a range of activities, including training and certification programs for tourism stakeholders, promoting sustainable tourism practices to tourists, and supporting the development of sustainable tourism infrastructure in cities. – trade arab news agency
