CorroLogic provides logical solutions for corrosion in the O&G industry

[ad_1]

Cortec, a leader in corrosion technology, introduces CorroLogic technology, which addresses four major corrosion challenges in the oil and gas (O&G) industry.

Protection against corrosion under insulation

Corrosion under insulation is a long-standing problem that plagues oil and gas facilities, as well as many other industries that use insulated piping. The environment under the insulation is the perfect breeding ground for corrosion, as moisture and other aggressive media can enter a damaged barrier or sheath, and condensation from wet and dry cycles can build up beneath the insulation, which is often Will not attract attention.

Having struggled to find an easy solution for years, workers often resorted to coating the exposed pipe directly before covering or re-covering it with insulation. Vapor-phase corrosion inhibitors offer an exciting option for infusion into existing insulation materials, but a limited temperature range limits widespread use. With the latest development of CorroLogic CUI Inhibitor Injection, Cortec has increased thermal stability to 662 °F (350 °C), which means facilities can consider adding corrosion protection to more widely insulated piping or equipment than before.

When the insulation is injected, corrosion-inhibiting vapors migrate from the point of injection along the pipe, forming a hydrophobic protective layer on the underlying metal surface, saving downtime and labor because the pipe and insulation remain intact while the protection is applied.

Corrosion Protection for Above Ground Storage Tanks (AST)

Soil side corrosion is another prevalent problem due to the number of oil and gas storage tanks and their hidden corrosive tank bottom environments. Given the large volumes of flammable liquids stored in these tanks, protecting the bottom of the AST was critical. Although cathodic protection (CP) is a standard practice, variations in tank bottoms mean that certain surfaces may not be in contact with protective current and may benefit from supplementary protection.

In addition, installing CPs on existing ASTs was extremely expensive and labor intensive, as the tanks had to be stopped for retrofitting.

Fortunately, the CorroLogic VpCI engineered solution can be installed alone or with the CP at any stage of the AST’s lifespan. For example, a CorroLogic dispensing system can be integrated into the tank foundation during tank construction. Injected through a dispensing system, CorroLogic Slurry releases a vapor phase corrosion inhibitor that evaporates and protects all accessible metal in enclosed void spaces, either alone or in combination with CP.

Even better for existing tanks, CorroLogic Powder can be introduced under existing tanks during out-of-service inspections; while CorroLogic Slurry can be injected through the annular wall, minimizing disruption to normal operations even when AST is running interference and significantly reduce protection costs.

Maintain casing pipe intersections

A third corrosion problem area is sleeved pipe intersections. To protect pipes from the weight of the road/traffic above and to make repairs easier, they can be a breeding ground for corrosion.

Pipe casings are difficult to access and can trap water and debris, which can lead to corrosion. The CorroLogic VpCI Filler is a patented solution designed for filling such existing duct intersections. This two-part product turns into a gel, filling the annular void space around the delivery pipe and protecting all sides from corrosion.

The gel resists the penetration of air and water, and the vapor phase corrosion inhibitors provide total protection through their ability to migrate and diffuse under the release coating through void spaces not completely filled with CorroLogic VpCI Filler Gel. While many casing-pipe intersections around the world remain at risk, a growing number are being equipped with the patented CorroLogic VpCI Filler as part of integrity management.

void protection

While CUI, AST and cased pipe intersections present critical corrosion concerns, they do not diminish the importance of void space protection throughout the oil and gas industry. Large tanks and containers require internal storage during plant sequestration or short-term shelving. Hundreds of pipeline sections often sit outside, unprotected in staging yards along new pipeline construction routes.

With CorroLogic Nebulizer VpCI-339, preservation is simple and comprehensive. This 100% vapor phase corrosion inhibitor can be misted into pipes or containers and then capped or closed to keep the protective vapor inside. These vapor-phase corrosion inhibitors are attracted to metal surfaces, where they form a protective molecular layer that can easily last for one to two years if left undisturbed. This is an excellent alternative to nitrogen purge or blanket because it requires no special equipment to maintain constant pressure, is less expensive, and does not require reapplication if a gap is temporarily opened.

At the end of laying, pipes and vessels are ready for immediate use and corrosion inhibitor removal is usually not required. The same technology can be translated to the protection of virtually any void space in an oil and gas site.

Follow the logic of CorroLogic

When it comes to the high risks involved in oil and gas corrosion – whether in asset value, production downtime or safety threats – a small investment in corrosion protection now is a practical alternative to avoiding astronomical corrosion costs later Digital loss.

CorroLogic technology makes this choice even more logical, as it adapts to some of the most inconvenient stages of the asset lifecycle. — trade arab news agency
