Dubai’s AED15.78b Solar Project to Energize 320,000 Homes

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), inspected progress at the 950MW 4th phase of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, a $4.3b project. Using the Independent Power Producer model, the phase aims to power 320,000 homes and reduce carbon emissions by 1.6 million tonnes annually.

Al Tayer was briefed by Noor Energy 1 officials on the progress of the 4th phase, the world’s largest single-site project combining Concentrated Solar Power and photovoltaic technology.

The 1st phase covers 100MW from the solar tower, 200MW from the parabolic basin complex, and 217MW from photovoltaic panels. The 2nd and 3rd phases are also well advanced.

The solar park, set to reach 5,000MW by 2030, contributes to Dubai’s clean energy strategy.

The 4th phase employs three hybrid technologies: 600MW from a parabolic basin complex, 100MW from a solar power tower, and 250MW from photovoltaic panels. With 717MW already commissioned, it will have 15-hour thermal storage.

The phase will incorporate over 790,000 photovoltaic panels, 63,600 parabolic trough collectors, and 70,000 mirrors. Completion is expected in Q1 2024.

This aligns with Dewa’s renewable energy and energy storage efforts, including a 250MW hydroelectric plant and a green hydrogen project using solar energy.
