ABU DHABI, 20th June, 2023 (WAM) — Abu Dhabi will host the third edition of the Spartan World Championships from 8th to 10th December, 2023, which returns to Al Wathba for the second consecutive year. desert. Organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the event will bring together elite athletes from around the world and reaffirm Abu Dhabi’s status as a global sporting event destination.

The 2021 event, held for the first time outside the US and in the Middle East, was a huge success with the participation of more than 4,500 male and female players from more than 50 countries around the world in the Liwa desert – Talmereb. in the Aldafra region.

The 2022 event, held in the Al Wathba desert, attracted more than 5,000 male and female competitors from 75 countries around the world.

The finalists will compete for the men’s and women’s world titles on Dec. 9, while the world team championships will be held on Dec. 10.

Opening Day on December 8 will be dedicated to hosting all competitors in preparation for the start of the competition the next day.

Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Sparta will also organize community competitions for all ages between events as part of the Sports Council’s strategy to ensure global events remain an opportunity for participation and quality of life for all members of society.

Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “We are proud to announce once again that Abu Dhabi will host Al Wazbah for the third and second time in a row. The desert hosts the Spartan World Championships, after the great success of the first and second editions.

“We can assure everyone that the Championship will continue its success in the next edition, traversing the dunes of the Al Wazba Desert, which in itself presented obstacles, hurdles and interesting challenges to competitors from all over the world.”

Awani said that endurance sports and overcoming barriers created by the Spartan community fall within the framework of supporting a healthy lifestyle, reflecting the message of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council to improve the quality of sport by hosting, organizing and supporting such events. Life.

“After two impressive editions and two extraordinary experiences for the Spartan community, we are delighted to be back in Abu Dhabi,” said Spartan founder and CEO Joe De Sena.

Desena expressed his pleasure to cooperate with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, pointing out that various obstacle courses and obstacles will show the natural beauty of the desert on the Al Wazba Dunes, further motivating the determination of the participants towards the finish line.
