From multiplayer VR to mind-bending art, immersive entertainment reigns supreme here » Dallas Innovates

If entertainment is your thing and immersion is your thing – from “full body” virtual reality to mind-bending art tours to redesigned arcades – you’ve come to the right place. North Texas may be the largest high-tech playground in the United States. Some of the latest concepts in immersive entertainment are debuting here, and our region has also attracted the first US expansions of some of the UK’s most popular high-tech venues. Here’s what awaits you – one experience at a time.

Cosm is coming to wow you

Cosm, a leader in experiential media and immersive technology, brings one of its first two entertainment venues To Grandscape in The Colony – bridging the gap between virtual reality and physical reality with so-called “shared reality”. Founded in 2020 by Dallas-based Mirasol Capital, Cosm hired Dallas-based HKS to design the sprawling three-story arena, where an 87-foot LED screen will do wonders for up to 1,500 stunned spectators. Cosm’s proprietary dome and curved display technology will bring you there – from live sports and entertainment to experiential events, immersive art, music and more. The Los Angeles venue is scheduled to open in 2024; Grandscape’s opening date has yet to be confirmed.

Meow Wolf is as weird, imaginative and deliciously weird as its name suggests. Millions of people have “jumped into the unknown” at its locations in Santa Fe, Las Vegas and Denver. Now on a fourth, the 40,000-square-foot Meow Wolf Will open this summer at Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine. Local artists are being recruited to help create “illusory, mind-bending narratives, brought to life with unprecedented immersive art,” such as Light Tunnel from Las Vegas (above).

Celebrity-Backed Sandbox VR

exist Sandbox VRgroups of up to six people gear up in “the most immersive full-body VR ever,” for an action-packed virtual world experience. Inspired by the Star Trek Holodeck — now available in Dallas and Fort Worth — the local spot lets you don a VR headset and body kit, grab your virtual weapon, and play one of six wildly interactive games payment. Sandbox VR was built by EA, Sony, and Ubisoft veterans, and has attracted investors like Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Kevin Durant, and Will Smith.

Lions and tigers? Oh no.two circus are A “miniature amusement park” Featuring 35,000 square feet of technology-enhanced entertainment, it combines interactivity with “the spectacle of classic circuses and carnivals.” It launched in Los Angeles, and its second venue is now open in Dallas. Attractions include arcade games, a multiplayer VR experience, and a “story room.” There’s even a robotic bartender named Guillermo, adding “classic carnival fare” to go along with “molecular mixology.”

Activate Games Brings Live Indoor Action

Activate “brings entertainment into the future by bringing technology and physical activity together Live game experienceIt has as many as 11 rooms at six locations in Canada and the U.S. (including one soon to open in Plano), featuring laser mazes, touch-activated climbing walls, arcade-style goal walls, lighted basketball hoops and more – Your score will be tracked via RFID bracelet. Challenge: “Take your Brain and body put to the test. ”

In Deep Ellum and Grandscape in The Colony, the Electric Gamebox reinvents the way video games are played with ultra-immersive gaming in digital smart rooms using projection mapping, touchscreens, 3D motion tracking, and headphone-free surround sound. The gaming pod can accommodate two to six players at a time.

Puttery Introduces Mini Golf

Forget everything you know about miniature golf – the buzzing windmills and the depressing Astroturf. Puttery debuts “Modern Spin Mini Golf’, at The Colony’s Grandscape, two floors of four highly creative 9-hole “golf courses,” three bars, an outdoor terrace, and multiple lounges and seating areas. The illusion process above still makes us dizzy .

Dallas as “mecca golf“Continued to grow. Putshak, a neon-lit, tech-infused mini-golf experience and “global food and drink,” will hit the local market in summer 2023 at a 28,000-square-foot, two-story venue in Addison Village on Park Avenue. Puttshack has four locations in the UK and opened its first US locations in Atlanta and Chicago in 2021. Co-founded in 2018 by the same twin brothers who founded Topgolf, Steve and Dave Jolliffe, Puttshack will join the Dallas-area miniature golf fray against Puttery, but the more the merrier, right?

Later in 2023, football lovers (and the football curious) will have a new meeting place for a “socially competitive football entertainment experience” TOCA Social comes to the Dallas Design District. So far, the only other TOCA Social venue is live entertainment venue The O2 in London, which has attracted actors from ‘Ted Lasso’ and stars from English football clubs.The Dallas location will be a 56,000-square-foot, three-story building offering dining, beverages and an interactive soccer game experience in 34 “TOCA boxes”—two of which will featureA “crazy” view of the Dallas skyline.

Fixation VR offers over 100 games and experiences

Fixation VR says it offers “the largest, State-of-the-art VR Arcade In Texas” at the Hearst location. Designed for everyone from “VR newbies to VR enthusiasts,” Fixation offers over 100 games and experiences—from multiplayer games for up to 8 players to seated VR games. Watch a first-person view of a game your friends are playing. “Precise 360-degree controller and headset tracking, lifelike graphics, and directional audio mean lifelike movement and action in virtual worlds,” says Fixation. Three of its most popular games? Zomday VR (above), Beat Saber, and SUPERHOT VR.

iFLY Indoor Skydiving

Want to skydive but don’t want to jump out of a plane?You are in luck – Courtesy of iFLY Indoor skydiving experience In a state-of-the-art vertical wind tunnel. Its Frisco and Fort Worth locations get you ready and experiencing what it’s like to fly, while also offering STEM students field trips and team-building private events. iFLY’s instructors are “elite athletes” who provide coaching sessions for children and adults and oversee all parties “to ensure safety and fun!”

Dallas Beacon Art Space

You don’t need a secret handshake to enter a Masonic temple in downtown Dallas. Now restored and renamed Beacon Art Space Dallas, the historic East Side building has been transformed into an arts and cultural venue for the city of Dallas. It opened in 2001 and was a hit: An immersive Van Gogh exhibition, a walking wonderland in the art of Vincent van Gogh, features over 500,000 feet of surround video projection that recreates his masterpiece on a colossal scale. It is also currently hosting the exhibition “Immersive Monet and Impressionism” (above).

  • Universal Parks & Resorts is planning a new theme park concept “unlike any other theme park in the world” — and it’s aiming to build it in North Texas. The proposed park would be located within Universal’s recent purchase of 97 acres in Frisco, and would target “a new generation of fans” on a more intimate scale than the larger Universal Studios parks. An adjacent themed hotel will also be part of Frisco’s newest attraction.

  • The award is presented annually by Retail and Leisure International, the world’s only global magazine for the retail and leisure industry. Grandscape is known for innovative retail and entertainment offerings, from the 180-foot Grandscape Wheel to new concepts like the Puttery and Electric Gamebox, and delightful attractions like Jurassic Park: The Exhibit.

  • Grand Prairie’s EpicCentral Corridor includes the new mixed-use development Mayfield Groves, which has completed three major projects to increase the city’s entertainment district. City Manager Steve Dye said the city welcomes new businesses “as we continue to selectively build our EpicCentral corridor along State Route 161.”

  • The new 12-acre BigShots venue will be part of the city’s EpicCentral entertainment district along SH 161. Boasting a two-story tee box with 80 interactive heated tees and ball tracking technology powered by TrackMan Range, the venue will also offer a 27-hole technology-driven indoor putting course, an “elevated” sports bar and more . The news comes a week after it was announced that Dallas’ own Jordan Spieth has become an investor, advisor and brand ambassador for Invited, BigShots’ majority owner.

  • If the future of sports has a home, it’s North Texas. A big bragging rights, we know. But consider this: From high-tech advancements to the hottest sports trends to startups on the cutting edge of fitness science, it all kicks off in Dallas-Fort Worth.

  • The newest addition to the 172-acre EpicCentral is a 120,000-square-foot fitness, arts and entertainment facility called The Epic. Get a sneak peek and a sneak peek ahead of its grand opening this weekend—from the culinary kitchen to the digital media studio to the artist’s residence.
