Looking for a place to take a special Christmas photo? From eye-catching light displays to slices of Southern charm, these places are sure to add a touch of the holidays to your Instagram feed—or go the old fashioned way and create a card to share with friends and family.

Zoolights in Baton Rouge Zoo

There’s certainly a lot to see at the Baton Rouge Zoo’s family-friendly Zoolights exhibit, with more than 50 animal lighting sculptures and traditional holiday exhibits.

Many of the displays are animated, and some are 30 feet tall. They include everything from lions and tigers to toy soldiers, and alligators with a touch of Louisiana flair.

The exhibition runs until December 30th and is closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Admission fees range from $3 for zoo members and children under 12 to $5 for adults and teens.More information can be found online https://www.brzoo.org/events/special/zoolights/

Baton Rouge General Holiday Lights

Every year, the green space in front of Baton Rouge General’s Cornflower Campus is transformed into a Christmas wonderland with twinkling lights and synchronized music.

This year, the exhibit is filled with lights from the personal collection of Jason Landry, an Ascension parishioner who has adorned his property for nearly 30 years. The exhibition will run until December 31st.

Here’s one guy who probably won’t be showing up again anytime soon. People are reportedly using the wreck of the Brookhill Ferry, which sank in 1915 and resurfaced earlier this year after record low water levels in the Mississippi River, as a unique backdrop for Christmas photos.

Located next to a dike in the city center, the wreck will be covered up again when the river returns to normal levels.

Bonus points if you also see the Mississippi River Bridge in the background.

What’s more classic than a photo with old Santa?

Around Baton Rouge, there are multiple options for capturing this happy man in red. He’ll be appearing at Perkins Rowe and the Louisiana Mall until Dec. 24, but the photos don’t come cheap, with packages starting at $39.99 and closer to $50 once taxes and fees are included. Online booking is recommended.

If you’re looking to save some money on your wallet, Bass Pro and Cabela’s are offering free 4×6 photos with Santa through December 24th. Again, online reservations are recommended.

North Avenue Christmas Tree

The Christmas tree in downtown Baton Rouge, adorned with twinkling lights and topped with a glowing star, is a classic Christmas photo.

The 35-foot-tall tree, located in the town square on North Avenue, was lit during the Festival of Lights this past weekend by East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor and President Sharon Weston Bloom.

While you’re there, check out the oak trees on North Avenue, beautifully wrapped in Christmas lights.

Louisiana State Capitol

The view overlooking the Louisiana State Capitol from North 4th Street is always a beautiful picture, and it’s even better when the building is illuminated.

This year will be the case. Along with the illuminated Capitol, check out the Grove of Lights at the United States Armed Forces Memorial. Located on the side of Louisiana Veterans Memorial Park facing the governor’s mansion, the new exhibit features trees covered in white Christmas lights to honor service members for their courage and service.

Feeling a bit on vacation and tingling down the spine too? The Myrtle Plantation in St. Francisville is said to be one of the most haunted buildings in the country, and while it’s certainly creepy, it’s also a beautiful holiday backdrop.

Its pre-war architecture and Spanish moss-covered trees give the property a unique Louisiana flavor. Don’t forget about ghosts. Some say there are about a dozen on the property, so check your photos for any unexpected guests before posting them online.
