New Round Of Israel-Lebanon Negotiations Scheduled For Rome
The next round of Israel Lebanon talks has been scheduled for Rome, running from August 4 to 6, the US State Department has confirmed.
The negotiations are expected to focus on expanding a framework already in place, one that covers Hezbollah’s disarmament, the deployment of Lebanese troops in the south, and a phased Israeli withdrawal from designated zones along the border.
Officials say border security and preventing further escalation along Israel’s northern frontier will also be on the table. The announcement comes as diplomatic activity across the wider region continues to build.
Oman has proposed a new mechanism for managing security around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest shipping routes. Iran’s foreign minister has also held separate calls with counterparts in Oman and Saudi Arabia to discuss the waterway and broader regional security.
Meanwhile, drone interceptions near Jordan and a reported strike in southern Lebanon show that tensions across the Middle East remain far from fully resolved.
For now, direct US–Iran hostilities appear to have paused, giving diplomats room to work, though the path to lasting calm still looks uncertain.
