Los Angeles Philharmonic announces summer 2023 lineup at Hollywood Bowl, kicking off June with a star-studded concert Janet Jackson and Ludacris.

In addition to Quincy Jones’ birthday tribute, other winning themes include the late Stephen SondheimDuke Ellington, and nearly a century of Disney animated music.
Films to be screened with live orchestral accompaniment include entries from alternate franchises such as star wars and harry potter Movie, and Stanley Kubrick’s first live score in the bowl 2001.
The Playboy Jazz Festival is the signature event of the prestigious venue in June, featuring the newly awarded Best Newcomer from the Grammy Awards, Samara Joyand a sizable cast that includes Leon Bridges, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Digable Planets, Poncho Sanchez, and Big Freedia, Herbie Hancock and Kamasi Washington have signed on as co-curators.
“I was thrilled when the Los Angeles Philharmonic asked me to co-curate this festival with Kamasi and explore his extraordinary artistic vision,” commented 14-time Grammy winner Hancock. “Our celebrations this year include many artists – both emerging and established – at defining moments in their musical journeys.”
Together, “we want to build community and connection through the music we make, and leave listeners feeling uplifted and inspired.” Hancock will not perform at the festival; his next Los Angeles Philharmonic concert will be in April Sunday 2nd at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Adds Washington said: “Herbie is one of the greatest musicians of all time, and I am so excited to be with him for this special performance. Herbie and I have been working with the Los Angeles Philharmonic to create a one-of-a-kind experience, and we Hopefully it will leave audiences with excitement, joy, life, soul and most importantly great music.”
