Abbott unveiled a new technology at Medlab Middle East that can identify positive Strep A (Strep) results in as little as two minutes and negative results in six minutes.

The ID NOW Strep A 2 test provides molecular results in 6 minutes or less on the unique ID NOW platform, allowing healthcare professionals to test during patient visits and, in the event of a positive result, treat, The test was showcased at the MENA region’s largest medical laboratory exhibition and congress, which is now on its second day.

The technology is faster than other molecular methods and more accurate than traditional rapid tests, delivering results in a feasible time frame and allowing real-time clinical decision-making to positively impact patient care.

Using single-membrane technology, plasma separation and enzymatic reactions occur simultaneously, so a drop of blood can provide insight into the user’s health status. The device is paired with a smartphone app, allowing users to constantly check their results and explore newly added biomarker measurements.

Continuing the theme of innovation, Greiner Bio-One presented the latest technology in the field of blood collection. Developed for one-handed use, the winged needle features a semi-automatic click mechanism that protects the user from the risk of needlestick injury and makes daily blood collection tasks easier, while the ultra-sharp needle tip ensures patient comfort.

Targeting the $802 million veterinary rapid diagnostic test market, Z Biotech Inc demonstrated a line of cat and dog tests that can identify everything from coronavirus to leukemia in 10 minutes. Coinciding with this was Meril Veterinary, which showcased its latest animal diagnostic analyzers, covering biochemistry and hematology.
