NEW YORK (AP) — Billionaire Elon Musk hinted in a Saturday tweet that his rocket company SpaceX may continue to Funding its satellite-based Starlink internet service in Ukraine. But Musk’s tone and rhetoric also cast doubt on the grumpy Tesla CEO’s sarcasm.
Musk regularly tweets jokes and insults, sometimes with unusual topics, such as a recent series of tweets suggesting that one of his companies has started selling its own line of fragrances. It is unclear whether SpaceX actually has future plans for service in Ukraine.
On Friday, senior U.S. officials confirmed that Musk had formally requested the Defense Department Funds to take over services provided by Starlink in Ukraine. Starlink uses more than 2,200 low-orbiting satellites to provide broadband Internet service, providing the Ukrainian military with critical battlefield communications since the early days of Ukraine’s statehood. “Hell… even though Starlink is still losing money and other companies are getting billions in taxpayer revenue, we will continue to fund the Ukrainian government for free,” Musk tweeted Saturday.
