Next-gen Ranger Wildtrak punishes customers on the road

[ad_1]

Ford’s global team of development engineers showed no mercy when it came to testing the toughness and durability of the next-generation Ranger Wildtrak. After all, they need to offer truly global products that can meet the challenge.

Built from the ground up to be the toughest, smartest, most versatile and capable Ranger for the active lifestyles of fearless specialists in the Middle East, the truck is undergoing more physical and virtual testing than ever before.

“Achieving Built Ford Tough status is not something we take lightly,” said John Willems, chief program engineer for the Ford Ranger. “Every part of the next-generation Ranger was tested to the same standards that we demand of every Ford vehicle.”

through its paces

The next-generation Ford Ranger is being tested on some of the toughest terrains around the world to ensure it is not only capable and customer-ready, but also meets Ford’s stringent standards for world-class quality, reliability and durability.

“It’s important that our customers can rely on the Ranger to provide years of reliable service,” Willems said. “So, we went out of our way to put the next-gen Ranger through extreme testing – far more stress than the average consumer – to help ensure it’s ready for whatever life throws at it.

“Whether it’s tackling muddy bush trails, dealing with harsh extreme tropical weather, towing through alpine passes, or withstanding temperatures in excess of 50 degrees Celsius, the Ranger has to do it all.”

Durability Test

So far, Next-Gen Ranger testing has covered approximately 10,000 kilometers of desert driving, equivalent to 1,250,000 kilometers of customer driving, and rugged off-road durability testing at maximum load capacity equivalent to 625,000 kilometers, and testing is taking place around the world. But even before the first prototypes hit the road for testing, Ford engineers ran thousands of hours of computer simulations and thousands of real-world simulations of the next-generation Ranger in the lab, covering everything from aerodynamics to All aspects of component and structural durability.

“Computer simulations help us speed up development, while lab testing helps us improve and test specific components – but there really is no substitute for real-world testing to really see how it will hold up to years of use by customers,” Willems explained.

Ranger customers expect their vehicles to go above and beyond, so this rigorous test simulates a variety of real-world scenarios customers might put their pickups through. It is held at Ford plants around the world to ensure the next-generation Ford Ranger meets the needs of customers around the world, including the Middle East.

squeaks and rattles

Some of these tests were deemed too stringent for humans, so computer simulations and robotics were used instead of humans in cases such as extreme “squeak and rattle” setups, in which case the pickup’s suspension and the entire The bodies are all exposed 24/7 to repeated punishing test cycles.

“As engineers, it’s our job to translate customer experience insights into a clear product definition brief for the engineering team, an absolute reference for engineers. This is especially important for the Ranger as we’re developing it to sell globally,” concludes Willems . — trade arab news agency
