Nikken Sekkei Opens New Subsidiary Office in Dubai

Nikken Sekkei, Japan’s leading architecture, engineering and urban design firm, one of the largest practices in the world, celebrated the launch of the firm’s local subsidiary, Nikken Sekkei Dubai, with the opening of a new office in the Dubai Design District (D3).

The office is a testament to Nikken Sekkei’s pedigree in the UAE, dating back to 1991 with its design for the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry building on the banks of Dubai Creek, the firm said in a statement.

The new D3 office will complement and support the expansion of Nikken Sekkei’s office on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Noboru Sekiguchi, Consul General of Japan in Dubai, Atsushi Komatsu, President and CEO of Nikken Sekkei, along with the Nikken Executive Committee and many partners, colleagues and developers.

Addressing the gathering, Omatsu said: “The Middle East is a region where we place great emphasis on the opportunity to participate in high-quality projects. We are very impressed with our recent landmark projects with clients and partners, such as One Za’abeel.”

“Dubai has excellent infrastructure to sustain our growth and I am confident that the establishment of a new company in the Dubai Design District will strengthen our ability to continue to contribute to the growth of the region,” he said.

The Consul General congratulated the team and pointed out that Nikken Sekkei’s achievements in Dubai are of great significance.

Fadi Jabri, Executive Director of Nikken Sekkei and CEO of the Dubai office, said: “Our D3 office is an international team of architects, designers and specialists who value the role of creative design and the ability of architecture to create value through aesthetics. Ability to provide a pleasant and functional environment for people.”

“We have a young and dynamic team. Our signature designs are influenced by Japanese aesthetics, and we believe in the importance of nature and traditional values, while being creatively aware of embracing progress and technology,” he noted.

Nikken’s team of architects and engineers were tasked with designing the One Za’abeel development, which features a 230-meter-long, 23,000-tonne skybridge called “The Link” that connects two towers 100 meters above ground, providing this is a floating effect. The development is due to be completed by the end of this year.

Its other landmarks include Emaar 52|42 Tower, Emaar Forte, Jeddah Islamic Development Bank Headquarters, Tadawul Tower in Riyadh and Cairo Opera House.

Elaborating on its design journey in the UAE, Jabri said: “When we embarked on our first project, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, it was one of the tallest buildings in Dubai. Dubai’s excellent infrastructure and proximity to clients in the Middle East The location, India and the CIS have been supportive of our growth in the region. We look forward to continuing to meet the needs of our customers and bringing additional value through our partnership with the Japanese team.”

The event also showcased a range of projects that the Dubai office has been responsible for designing and collaborating with in the region’s office, residential and hospitality markets during its three decades in the Middle East.

Nikken Sekkei Dubai is the company’s fifth globally and first since 2019, Jabri said.He added that it will continue to serve the mixed-use, urban planning, hospitality and high-end residential markets in the UAE and surrounding countries by delivering comprehensive and innovative designs.-TradeArabia News Service
