June 16 (United Press International) — Francis The 86-year-old was released from a Rome hospital on Friday, a little more than a week after the 86-year-old underwent abdominal surgery to repair the hernia that was causing him pain.
The pope was taken to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on June 7 to undergo a laparotomy and surgery on his abdominal wall.He underwent a three-hour surgery under general anesthesia, and his press office explain Occurs “without complications”.
Matteo Bruni, director of the Vatican’s press office, announced the previous day that the pope would be released from hospital on Friday morning.
After being discharged from the hospital, the pope visited The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome is where he prays. He visited the church after being hospitalized for three days in March with bronchitis and undergoing colon surgery in July 2021, Vatican News reported.
All his appearances have been suspended through Sunday due to his surgery and subsequent hospitalization.
The Pope is scheduled to travel to Portugal from August 2-6, where he will take part in World Youth Day events.
