Portugal’s parliament condemns Israeli ‘expansionism’ and acknowledges the Nakba

The Palestinian Authority welcomed Portugal’s recognition of the Nakba and its support for Palestinian self-determination. The resolution, passed by the Portuguese parliament, condemned Israel’s West Bank expansionism and violations of international law.

The ruling Socialist Party, Communist Party, and Left Bloc voted in favor, while the Social Democratic Party and Chega Party voted against it.Palestine Welcomes Portugal’s Recognition of Nakba Day

The Palestinian Authority sees this resolution as a crucial initial step towards recognizing Palestinian statehood. The Nakba, marking the ethnic cleansing of Palestine during Israel’s creation in 1948, is observed annually on May 15th.
