The RAGBRAI Grinnell Council has announced the entertainment lineup for Thursday 27th July. Grinnell is the last drive-thru community on day 5 of the 2023 RAGBRAI route. Riders will be hosted at Grinnell Central Park during their stops.
Starting at 10 a.m., the Too Many String Band will perform live music on stage in Central Park. The Too Many String Band is a Grinnell institution that plays a mix of folk classics and original compositions. The eclectic mix of musicians includes a variety of Grinnellians, from college professors to insurance professionals, all brought together by their love of music and community.
From 11am to 11:30am, the Turlach Ur Pipe Band will begin the first of two shows of the day. With over 30 bagpipers and drummers, Turlach Ur is the largest bagpipe band in Iowa. Their performances are all over the Midwest, and even as far away as Los Angeles, Chicago, and even Glasgow, Scotland. The Turlach Ur Wind Band will perform the second performance at 2pm
Des Moines-based RetroSpect will begin at 11:45 am. These five Iowa favorites are a celebration of pop, rock and R&B music from the ’70s and ’80s.
Starting at 1pm, Jake Simon will take the stage. A native of Grinnell, Jack has been touring the Midwest for years as an up-and-coming country music artist. From his first top 40 hit on the Music Row country breakout chart, “I Still Think About You,” to his latest single, “If It Was Still Summer,” Jake’s music is the soundtrack to summer afternoons .
The afternoon ends between 3pm and 4:30pm with local legends and the area’s favorite band, Whiplash. The band will play classic rock songs from the 80s and 90s, getting riders ready to rock out on the final leg of their journey to Tama.
All start times are subject to change. Grinneans and residents of the area are invited downtown to the RAGBRAI celebration. More information on parking will be forthcoming for residents interested in participating.
