Review: Dusk Lounge, Nurai Island

[ad_1]

The dream island getaway you never knew you needed…

nitrogenUlai Island has always enjoyed a mystical allure, and just a 20-minute boat ride from Saadiyat Island, this secluded safe haven has been on our list for a while.

So, armed with a rare Sunday afternoon of momentum, we boarded a water taxi and headed to Nurai for a culinary adventure. It takes us over the waves, across the unspoilt blue ocean, and traces a peaceful row of mangroves.

Upon arrival, we were greeted with lush tropical foliage, purple flowers and a boardwalk leading us to the coast. This exotic oasis exudes sophistication and luxury while maintaining an understated, barefoot bohemian vibe.

We arrive at Dusk, a charming Mexican restaurant with a view of the sun slowly sinking into the sea. We sat in the sea-level annexe of the outdoor patio, with plush cushions on our backs. Below us, a meadow cast shadows in the swaying sway of palm trees.

We think sharing a dish is a fitting form of island idyll, and start with the smoked guacamole (AED75). It appears like a magician, brought to the table in a glass bell jar, and swam in an enchanting cloud of smoke. We dug right into the salty tortillas and piled on top of the green, smoky goodness with a lime smack in the middle.

We also tried the Aguchile de Salmon (90 dirhams). This bowl of small but mighty chunks of grilled salmon sits in an aromatic bath of piquant citrus dressing, with the crunch of garden-fresh onions and cucumbers bringing a welcome zest to every palate. Tostadas de tinga de pollo (Dhs60), come on Latest News Also approved. Shredded slow-cooked chicken marinated in adoboa sauce served on tacos. Each bite is coated with sour cream, crunchy red cabbage and sprinkled with grated cheese.

We long for more, but alas, even the most memorable adventures must come to an end. As the sun set, our stomachs and hearts were full, and we returned to the home of the waterwheel.
