“So far we know eight people have died…the number of injured has risen to 13,” the health ministry said on social media.

A residential building, an outbuilding of a printing factory and three vehicles were said to have been set ablaze in the attack.

Pavlo Kirilenko, the governor of the Donetsk region where Lehman is located, said that “around 10:00 am, the Russians attacked the town with multiple rocket launchers”.

Lyman, a major railway junction, was initially captured by Russian forces but was recaptured by Ukrainian forces in October.

Ukraine reported Russian offensive operations in the region this week.

Two civilians have been killed in Ukrainian fires in the Russian-held town of Oreshki in southern Ukraine, TASS news agency quoted an emergency services official as saying.

Ukrainian forces began a counteroffensive last month to retake Russian-held eastern and southern territories.

Facing the strong defense line of the Russian army, after more than a month, they only regained hundreds of square kilometers and a dozen villages.
