As the lead band member of Son Lux, Ryan Lott tells us here crew callthe band also includes Rafiq Bhatia and Ian Chang, are Daniels’ first hires on the feature film, and the filmmakers are big fans of the band’s work.
Son Lux was approached by DGA winners Daniel Kwan and Daniels Scheinert in September 2019, and the composer ended up scoring two major cuts of the film. The only difference, Lott said, is that the first version included “spaghetti babies and spaghetti boys that didn’t make it into the movie.”
The result of the zany family-fantasy martial arts flick is a soft-but-loud upbeat emotional classic soundtrack.
“They understood the potential of our partnership better than we did when we started,” admits Lott.
“Each of us is a multiverse,” Lott said of the band’s melancholy, sanity and gravitas, which fit perfectly Everything is everywhere.
“They hear that in our music,” Lott said.
“Usually the music would chase the clip,” Lott said, “but it’s the opposite.”
