Sorbonne Abu Dhabi celebrates alumni achievements at inaugural alumni dinner

ABU DHABI – The Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi hosted its inaugural Alumni Dinner with the theme ‘Red Carpet, Green Heart’. Not only was the event a great networking opportunity for alumni to reconnect, but it was also organized in line with the University’s Go Green 2023 initiative, which was designed to be sophisticated and sustainable, incorporating environmental elements into its planning and execution.

The event aims to demonstrate how modernity, technological advancement and innovation can contribute to a more sustainable future, where various sustainable practices and measures are implemented to minimize the event’s environmental impact.

More than 400 alumni, administrators, academics and VIPs attended the event. The guests had an evening of celebration and returned to their alma mater to celebrate the reunion together.

At the event, renowned alumnus Dr. Majed Al Khemeiri, Vice-Chancellor for Administration and Finance at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, delivered an inspiring speech on sustainable development in the context of the UAE hosting COP28, highlighting both The importance of the University and its alumni’s efforts to foster environmental awareness, promote sustainable practices and drive positive change.

In his opening speech, Dr Alkhemeiri said: “The Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi provided me with an excellent education and inspired me to pursue a PhD in Sustainability. As students, we formed the Sustainability Team in 2012 to foster environmental awareness, I have been fortunate to study with talented students from a variety of backgrounds.”

He added: “The UAE, as a nation, has always demonstrated a commitment to sustainable development and innovative solutions. As alumni of the Sorbonne Abu Dhabi University, we have a duty to contribute to this legacy, using the knowledge we acquire and Skills have a lasting, positive impact on our environment, society and economy.”

Rawdha Almeraikhi, President of the Alumni Council, then delivered a speech sharing her perspective as a Sorbonne alumnus. In particular, she spoke about the changes that will take place in the Council between 2023 and 2025, expressing her admiration for the outstanding achievements of the previous Council. Almeraikhi also took the opportunity to celebrate the notable achievements of the Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and its esteemed alumni.

Subsequently, Reem Al-Azem, an alumnus of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, gave a piano recital. Additionally, guests are immersed in an unparalleled culinary journey, accompanied by captivating live performances and performances celebrating the seamless fusion of Arabic and French cultures. Fitting perfectly with the University’s motto ‘Bridges Between Civilizations’, these vibrant displays embody the power of cultural exchange and diversity.
