UAE Authorities Issue Urgent Advisory for Motorists as Thunderstorm and Lightning Strikes

The UAE has experienced a range of rain intensities across the nation, with heavy showers leading to slippery roads, prompting authorities to caution motorists.

Urgent Advisory from Abu Dhabi Police

In response to the adverse weather conditions, Abu Dhabi Police have issued an urgent advisory, urging drivers to reduce speed when driving in the rain. Siren alerts were dispatched to residents’ mobile phones as a precautionary measure. Many roads in the capital have activated speed-reduction systems, which lower the speed limit to 80 km/h.

Emergency Contact Information

Residents have been provided with contact information for emergencies related to fluctuating weather, including incidents such as falling trees, water accumulation, and toppled lighting poles. They are requested to contact Abu Dhabi City Municipality at 993.

Unpredictable Weather Patterns

The Meteorology Department has reported heavy showers and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning. Community members are urged to remain vigilant and alert in light of these unstable weather conditions. Residents are strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel, exercise caution on the roads, and utilize low-beam headlights when visibility is reduced.

Hail Forecast in Specific Areas

Hailstones are expected in the mountainous regions of Sharjah’s eastern and central areas, which may also impact the coastal areas of the Arabian Gulf and regions including Abu Dhabi, Al Dhafra, Al Ain, and the eastern coast.

Continued Unpredictable Weather

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has predicted that the UAE will continue to experience unpredictable weather conditions, with transitions from partly cloudy to cloudy skies in various regions. Rainfall and thunderstorms are anticipated, especially in the presence of convective clouds.

Variable Temperatures and Wind Conditions

Temperatures are expected to decrease, and wind conditions will fluctuate from moderate to strong gusts, especially when there is cloud cover. This may lead to reduced horizontal visibility due to dust and sand. The sea is also likely to become moderate to rough, particularly in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea, during cloudy conditions.
