Abu Dhabi resident forged a woman’s signature on a check worth Dh1.2 million. The man was ordered to pay her Dh50,000 in compensation.

The woman filed a civil suit against the man seeking Dh4 million in damages, official court documents said. She added that the man had earlier filed a lawsuit against her for writing invalid checks.

The plaintiff said the man presented a check with her forged signature and claimed it was hers.

The woman was later acquitted after a writing expert proved that the signature on the check did not match hers.

The woman then filed criminal charges against the man for forging her signature. He was sentenced to three months in prison. She then filed a civil lawsuit seeking monetary damages.

After hearing from all parties, the Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Administrative Court ruled and ordered the man to pay the woman Dh50,000 for the moral damage she suffered.

The man was also told to pay the woman’s legal costs.
