
Court has ordered him to pay Dh200,000 as blood money to victims’ families
A worker accused of stabbing a woman to death and attempting to kill another man in Al Ain has been acquitted.
The Al Ain Crown Court of First Instance dropped the man’s charges of premeditated murder and attempted murder. The decision was made after it was confirmed he was suffering from mental or psychological problems and depression and was unaware of his actions.
The court also ordered the man to pay Dh200,000 in blood money to the woman’s family.
Official court documents say the man, in his 30s, stabbed the woman in various parts of her body, including the neck and chest, with a kitchen knife and killed her. The incident happened in a certain area of Al Ain last year.
After killing the Arab woman, the Asian went on to attack another man at the same location. The man survived.
The defendant attempted to stab himself with a knife, causing serious wounds, and attempted suicide. However, he was caught by the police and arrested. He was found to be using psychotropic drugs.
During interrogation, the man confessed to killing the woman and attempting to murder another resident.
Prosecutors charged the Asian with premeditated murder of the woman and attempted murder of another man.
At the court hearing, lawyers for the accused argued that the man suffered from mental illness and depression and was insane at the time of the crime. The lawyer said the Asian bought the knife to kill himself, but he didn’t expect the consequences when he attacked the woman and another man.
He said there had been no prior altercation with the victim.
Lawyers are asking the court to acquit the Asian man of murder and attempted murder charges because he did not know what he was doing.
A psychiatric report released by a government hospital in Al Ain said the accused was referred to the medical board which recommended that he need to be taken to the hospital’s Department of Behavioral and Psychological Sciences for treatment of auditory hallucinations in the form of mental symptoms leading to unusual behavior on the day of the incident. .
The psychiatrist’s report also confirmed that the Asian was suffering from mental or psychological problems and depression and was unaware of what he was saying or doing at the time of the murder.
After hearing the opinions of all parties, the judge acquitted the Asian man of intentional murder of the woman and attempted murder. However, the man was ordered to pay Dh200,000 in blood money to the woman’s family.
