A UAE resident has been detained pending investigation on charges of publishing propaganda material that incites public opinion and harms the public interest.

The Asian expatriate was also charged by the Federal Anti-Rumours and Cybercrime Prosecution Authority for posting content that did not meet media content standards and insulted UAE society.

Earlier, the UAE Attorney-General’s Office FBI saw a video clip on social media platforms in which the accused entered a luxury car showroom in Emirati attire. He was followed by two men with a large sum of money in their hands. While talking to the showroom owner, he arrogantly demanded a car worth over Dh2 million.

He also offered large sums of cash to showroom employees in a worthless manner and promoted offensive images of UAE citizens, mocking them. This move incites and provokes public opinion and damages public interests.

The public prosecution has summoned the owner of the car showroom where the video was filmed.

The Public Prosecution urges social media users in the UAE to abide by the law and ethical regulations in the media content they post, and to take into account the social characteristics and inherent values of the country’s society, which require an ethical commitment in all aspects of behaviour, to avoid falling within the under the force of the law.
