Military spokesman Felix Kulayigye told CNN that some of the victims died after being killed with machetes, while others died after their dormitories were set on fire.

About 20 members of the Alliance of Democratic Forces (ADF), an Islamic State-linked rebel group, attacked Lhubirira Secondary School on Friday night, according to the Ugandan military.

Among those killed were 39 students and two local community members, local authorities reported, according to CNN.

Police said armed rebels from the Islamic State-linked Allied Democratic Forces attacked the Lhubiirira secondary school in Mpondwe, on the country’s border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, on Friday night.

“A dormitory was burned and a food shop was looted,” Ugandan police force spokesman Fred Enanga tweeted.

The spokesman said Ugandan police and the UPDF were in “hot pursuit” of the suspect. (Arnie)
