UAE approves first self-driving car license

The UAE Cabinet has approved the first national license for autonomous vehicles on the country’s roads, which was awarded to WeRide.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the approval via Twitter.

WeRide WeRide is a leading L4 autonomous driving technology company. This is the first national autonomous driving license in the Middle East and even in the world. With this license, WeRide will carry out road tests and operations of various autonomous vehicles in the UAE.

The Cabinet also approved the National Electric Vehicle Policy, which includes building a nationwide electric vehicle charging network, regulating the electric vehicle market, and stimulating related industries to ensure reductions in emissions, energy consumption, and maintenance of road quality. The UAE is enjoying it.

“The world is changing rapidly…the leadership paradigm is changing and the life of the nation will change rapidly in the coming years…while human comfort and quality of life will remain permanently on the agenda of our government,” Sheikh His Highness Mohammed said.

It is reported that Dubai aims to make 25% of its traffic fully autonomous by 2030. His Highness Mohammed bin Rashid emphasized that the issuance of autonomous driving licenses reflects changes in future mobility patterns in the country.

Before obtaining the national autonomous driving license, WeRide’s Robotaxi has completed public testing and operation on some roads in the UAE for more than a year.

On June 29, Abu Dhabi Integrated Transport Center (ITC) announced that as part of Eid al-Adha holiday services, visitors to Saadiyat Island and Yas Island in Abu Dhabi can experience free self-driving car services, including a The name “TXAI” was jointly launched by WeRide and Bayanat, a local listed company.

WeRide has been actively expanding its autonomous driving products and services internationally, and the Middle East is one of its key areas of focus. In March this year, WeRide officially settled in the China-UAE Production Capacity Cooperation Demonstration Zone and formed a local team to further accelerate the commercialization of autonomous driving technology in the UAE.

In addition to the rapid progress in the UAE, WeRide has also achieved remarkable results in Saudi Arabia. In September 2022, WeRide appeared at the 2022 Global Artificial Intelligence Summit held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, and announced that it would cooperate with the Saudi Artificial Intelligence Company (SCAI) to launch the first dynamic robot bus route in Saudi Arabia. . –trade arab news agency
