A Google Doodle celebrates ‘pani puri’, a popular South Asian street food, on Wednesday, July 12, 2015. A restaurant in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, set a record for offering the most flavors of pani puri by offering 51 flavors world record.
Made of a crispy crust stuffed with potatoes, chickpeas, spices or chillies and flavored water, this snack goes by various names such as Puchka, Gorgapaand there are many regional variations across the country.
In the states of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, this bite-sized snack is usually filled with a mixture of boiled chickpeas, white peas and bean sprouts soaked in tangy, spicy water.In Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and other northern Indian states, this potato and chickpea stuffed food soaked in jajra-flavored water is known as Gorgapa.name puchkas or Fuchkas Used in West Bengal and parts of Bihar and Jharkhand, the key ingredient of this variety is tamarind pulp.
According to legend, the popular snack dates back to the epic Mahabharata era, when newlywed Draupathi faced the challenge of supporting her five husbands with scarce resources. With just some leftover potatoes and vegetables and a small amount of wheat dough, Draupadi stuffs the potato and vegetable mixture into small pieces of fried dough, and that’s how pani puri was invented.
In today’s doodle game, the player’s task is to help a team of street vendors complete their orders for pani puri. The player needs to choose the puri that matches each customer’s taste and quantity preference in order to keep them satisfied.
