UK air traffic control faces “network-wide failure”

Britain’s National Air Traffic Service (NATS) had to limit aircraft flow on Monday due to a technical problem they are actively addressing. A spokesperson stated, “We are currently facing a technical issue and have implemented traffic flow restrictions to ensure safety.

Engineers are diligently working to identify and resolve the problem.” Scottish airline Loganair previously noted on social media that there was a widespread failure of the UK air traffic control computer systems, potentially causing delays for international flights.

Passengers stranded on planes during a busy travel day, which coincided with a UK public holiday, shared their experiences on social media.

A Reuters witness grounded in Budapest reported that their pilot informed them about a major computer failure leading to the closure of all UK airspaces, likely causing an 8-12 hour delay.
