Emirati students use artificial intelligence to design immersive game ideas at Repton Al Barsha’s annual festival of ideas

United Arab Emirates: Repton Al Barsha, owned by Excella, the leading operator of outstanding K-12 schools, hosted its largest annual festival of ideas on Wednesday 31 May 2023. In 2023, 108 students in grades 3-6 from 9 participating schools participated in the event. The UAE showcased innovative gaming concepts, showing how technology can change the world.

The fourth edition of the Festival of Creativity was a huge success, with schools across the UAE celebrating students’ creative talent and passion for innovation. Participating schools include Repton Al Barsha, Horizon English School, Hartland International School Dubai, Kings School Al Barsha, Safa British School, Dubai English Spoken Academy, Bloom World Academy, Repton Dubai and Repton Abu Dhabi.

Under the theme “AI Game Pitch Challenge,” students were tasked with creating engaging and creative pitches for unique game ideas using generative AI tools such as Picsart, Songen, Revoice, Keynote, Pages, and Clips. Students hone their skills, including creativity, problem solving, teamwork and communication, while learning about the exciting and limitless possibilities of generative artificial intelligence tools.

Teacher Repton Al Barsha also held several workshops throughout the day, where students explored various aspects of the design process, including narrative, art, drama and music. In the AI ​​workshop, students explored how to use AI tools to develop game ideas, and experimented with new tools and techniques that can be quickly incorporated into everyday life.

Students participate in groups of four and record their innovative work to showcase their creations. These are then digitally submitted to industry judges for review and scoring.

The day’s judges included Mr. Muhammad Khalid, serial entrepreneur and founder of the world’s fastest growing edtech app, School Hack.AI. Dr Jihan Zahran also joined the judging panel; an Education Specialist with Middle East Data Systems UAE, she has over 20 years experience as an education and innovation expert in the technology sector. Anand Ramachandran, co-founder of Bigfatphoenix Interactive, also joined the judging panel to celebrate the students’ creativity and share his expertise on game development concepts.
