‘Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution’ calls for investigation of suspects over incitement, invasion of privacy and more

The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution has launched legal proceedings against a suspect, an Arab national, for using information networks to incite public opinion and breach of privacy. This was done by targeting one of the participants of a recent book fair event in the country while live-streaming the video on social media platforms without the consent of the victim.

The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution has taken the necessary action in response to the incident circulating on social media that showed the suspect’s verbal attacks and accusing the victim of attending a public event due to previous convictions abroad.

The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution confirmed that the laws of the United Arab Emirates guarantee the rights of all persons and do not tolerate any form of infringement, trespass or attempt to disrupt public order. Law emphasizes upholding legal sovereignty and pursuing justice.

It is also noted that Article 44 of Federal Decree No. 34 of 2021 on combating rumors and cybercrime stipulates that anyone who uses information networks, electronic information systems or any information technology means to infringe on personal privacy and individuals without consent violates the law. , eavesdropping, intercepting, recording, transmitting, leaking conversations, communications, audio-visual materials, taking images of others in public or private places, making, transmitting, leaking, copying or retaining electronic images in one of the following ways shall be punished by not less than 6 months’ imprisonment and a fine of not less than 150,000 Dirhams (one hundred and fifty thousand dirhams) and not more than 500,000 dirhams (500,000 dirhams), or either of these two penalties.
