RAMALLAH: The Israeli army has given permission to settlers to organize the largest demonstration in years in the northern West Bank on April 10, with dozens of settler groups to take part.
Israel’s Channel 7 reported that the army agreed to the request of the Nakhla settler group to stage a mass demonstration that would begin at the Za’tara checkpoint south of Nablus towards the settlement of Avitar, built on Sabih Hill. The channel said the demonstrations will coincide with the Jewish Passover holiday on April 10 and will include rabbis, ministers and members of the Knesset, among others.
Dozens of Jewish organizations including Yisrael Sheli, Ad Kan, Habitkhonisten, Sovereign Movement, Bnei Akiva Youth Movement, Ezra Variel, Beitar Organization announced their participation in the march.
Participants will demand that the Israeli government fulfill its commitment to allow settlers to return to the Avita outpost after the Israeli Civil Administration completes land surveys.
Ghassan Daglas, the Palestinian presidency official in charge of settlements, told Arab News that the settlers are putting pressure on their government to legalize the settlement outposts they want on Palestinian-owned land, and are drawing support from the far right. benefit from the presence of the ministers of the wing of government.
“If they return to Jabal Abu Sbeih, we will greet them not with flowers but with popular demonstrations and protests. This is land owned by the Palestinians and they are trying to take it by force,” Dagras told Arab news.

In a major development, on Thursday, Shin Bet security announced the arrest of two settlers who attacked a Palestinian family in their car outside a retail store on the eve of the Jewish Purim holiday in the town of Huwara.
According to a statement from Shin Bet, the detainees threw rocks at the vehicle from close range, and one of them broke the window with an ax and attacked the vehicle’s occupants.
After interrogating them, the security agencies charged them with knowingly committing an act of terror motivated by racism.
Shin Bet accused the pair of belonging to a group of violent settlers committed to attacking Palestinians and disrupting the activities of the Israeli army in order to thwart Palestinian attacks.
Dagras said the activities would only lead to an escalation of tensions, threatening the lives of people in the region.
Meanwhile, settlers continued to invade the al-Aqsa mosque on Thursday, under the call of the al-Temple movement.
Seventy-three settlers, under Israeli police protection, stormed the mosque on Thursday. Some of them performed prayers there.
The Har-El youth group announced their plans to storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque next Sunday to celebrate Aliya Day, which symbolizes the return of the Jewish diaspora to Palestine.
Har-El called on his followers to storm the mosque wearing blue shirts emblazoned with the temple’s inscription, and said a mass invasion by other groups would follow.
The groups are calling on their supporters to bring sacrificial animals to be slaughtered inside the al-Aqsa mosque next Wednesday at 10:30 p.m.
Dubbing their statement a “state of emergency”, the groups called on all supporters “not to miss the Passover Eucharist at Al-Aqsa Mosque”.
In a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and National Security Minister Itamar Bengweer, 15 rabbis demanded that settlers be allowed to perform Passover sacrifices at Al-Aqsa Mosque this year. They called on the Israeli government to “use Israel’s control over the Al-Aqsa Mosque to allow worship to take place inside.”
In the letter, they claimed that allowing sacrifices to take place inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque was “Israel’s primary national interest”. They demanded that it be achieved “against all odds”.
Among the rabbis who signed the letter were Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, who heads the so-called Temple Institute, one of the groups calling for a temple to be built on the ruins of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and Rabbi Than Yehuda Kreuzer, the group’s rabbi Mitzvah Yericho Settlement, who led the settlers stormed the mosque.
Last year, the extremist Finance and Settlement Minister Bezalel Smotrich expressed his sympathy for the Jews who attempted to sacrifice at al-Aqsa, posting a picture of him in a car leading a A photo of a goat in support.
Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, the Mufti of Jerusalem and the Holy Land of Islam, told Arab News that extremist settlers and their associations have no right to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or hold their Jewish religious ceremonies in it, “because it is purely for Muslims. “
He said: “Israel’s continued attempt to Judaize the Holy Land and take control of al-Aqsa represents an affront to the feelings of millions of Muslims around the world.
“Our Palestinian people and Muslims around the world do not want the Al-Aqsa Mosque to become a site for Jewish extremists to superstitious and desecrate Islamic religious values,” he added, holding the Israeli government accountable for the attack and its dangerous repercussions.
“We cannot bow to the orders of the settlement association. The settlers feel the support of extremist ministers in the government, so they are escalating threats against the Al-Aqsa mosque,” he said.
