Abu Dhabi Water Conference 2026: UAE Seeks Global Water Investment

Abu Dhabi Water Conference 2026: Why Global Water Investment Is in Focus

The Abu Dhabi Water Conference 2026 is set to put water investment and global water security at the centre of international discussions later this year.

The United Arab Emirates and Senegal will co-host the 2026 United Nations Water Conference in Abu Dhabi from December 8 to 10. The conference will focus on turning commitments on water and sanitation into practical action and investment.

A key part of the UAE’s approach is connecting countries with investors, development finance institutions, businesses and technology companies that can help turn water plans into actual projects.

A UAE official recently said the focus needs to move beyond making promises towards delivering measurable results. Discussions in Africa are also feeding into preparations for the Abu Dhabi conference, particularly around water and sanitation projects.

For African countries, this could mean better access to financing for water infrastructure, sanitation systems and projects designed to improve water availability. The UAE and Senegal plan to help connect these priorities with potential sources of funding when leaders and investors meet in Abu Dhabi.

Water has become an increasingly important global issue. Population growth, climate change, drought and ageing infrastructure are putting pressure on water supplies in many parts of the world.

The conference will also focus on achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 6, which calls for clean water and sanitation for everyone. The official UN schedule confirms that the Abu Dhabi event will take place in December.

For Abu Dhabi, hosting the conference gives the capital another opportunity to bring governments, businesses and investors together around a major global challenge.

The Abu Dhabi Water Conference 2026 will therefore be about more than discussions. Its main challenge will be turning international commitments into projects that can improve water access, strengthen infrastructure and attract long-term investment.
