Choose your settings for live music under the Oahu skies


Hawaii has a pleasant climate year-round, but summer is the best time for live music in the open air. Here are just a few ways to help you get out of the house.

• Twilight Concert SeriesVahiawa Botanical Gardens, 5-6 pm: July 7Hawaiian and contemporary music with Hale Hou; July 21, Tevita’s Japanese and Enka music. free.

• 2023 Wildest Show Concert SeriesHonolulu Zoo, 6-7 p.m.: July 12Sean Na’aoua and Paul Izak trio; July 19Darren Benitez and Kenani Kahounale; July 26, The Brews with Keilana and Crossing Rain. Gates open at 4:30 pm; food and beverages available for purchase. Honolulu Zoo Association members $10, nonmembers $15, children ages 3-12 $5. Proceeds will be used to renovate the zoo’s family playground.tickets online or at the door.

• Sound of the Sea Summer ConcertWaikiki Aquarium, 7-9:30 p.m.: July 20Johnny Helm Band & Taimane, tickets; August 10Kawika Kahiapo and Bobbery Moderow Jr., Makaha Sons, tickets. Food is available for purchase. Bring your own blanket and chair.Doors open at 5:30 pm

• Hawaii Symphony Starlight FestivalTom Moffatt Waikiki Shell, 7:30-9:30 p.m. July 22: Conductor Sarah Hicks leads the HSO with Hawaiian Ballet Theater in an evening of classical music and dance in Rachmaninoff’s “Symphonic Dances.” tickets.

• 6th Annual Makaap Twilight ConcertSea Life Park, 5pm-10pm August 5: Hear the voices of Anuhea, Kalani Pe’a and Ledward Ka’apana, with entertainment from Huakai Polynesian Productions and host Dillon Ancheta. The preview starts at 4pm Food and drinks are available for purchase. tickets.

• Summer concertsWaimea Valley, 2 p.m. August 12: It’s an afternoon of luau and hula dancing for the whole family, with Waiolohia, Kekoa Kane, Jerry Santos and Na Leo Pilimehana performing on the main lawn. Food and drink can be purchased.Doors open at 11:30 am tickets.
