ABU DHABI, 16th January, 2023 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Environment Agency, EAD, recognized 24 active Green Business Network members at a ceremony recently held in Abu Dhabi.

At the same event, EAD awarded the Green Industry Label to Corodex Industries and Bristol Fire Engineering Industries, enabling them to use it to market their products.

This gesture reflects the important role businesses play in protecting the environment by implementing sustainable practices to reduce pollution, as well as their commitment to raising awareness and contributing to environmental research and research.

Notable organizations celebrating the event include Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, Al Ain Zoo and Aquarium Public Authority, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Musanada, Zayed People’s Higher Organization of Resolve, Aldar, Abu Dhabi Ports and others committed to green business Organizations targeted by the Network Initiative.

Last year, under this initiative, EAD partnered with Abu Dhabi Ports Group on a community campaign called “Clean the Surroundings”. The aim of the partnership is to promote sustainable waste management practices and reduce the consumption of single-use plastic materials in industrial facilities. The proposal proved successful, with six facilities in Abu Dhabi involved in 11 cleanups, collecting more than two tonnes of waste. Private sector companies are also involved, including Axis Engineering and Al Ghurair Steel.

Ahmed Baharoon, Executive Director of Information, Science and Environmental Awareness Management at EAD, said: “With the recognition of 24 Green Business Network members and our shift from monitoring company compliance to actively influencing their environmental decisions – we hope more facilities will will opt in. It starts with changing the work culture of companies to improve their environmental performance and empower employees to advocate for the environment.”

“The industrial sector is an important contributor to Abu Dhabi’s economy. Encouraging sustainable practices in this sector will bring us closer to realizing Abu Dhabi’s Environmental Vision 2030 plan, which integrates the economic, social and environmental aspects of sustainable development, to drive the overall sustainable development of the emirate,” Baharoon added.

In 2022, the agency launched the Green Industry Labeling program to promote supportive partnerships and to encourage and recognize the contribution of the industrial sector to environmental protection. The launch of the program is in line with the nature of Abu Dhabi’s industrial sector and global best environmental practices. The scheme is implemented by encouraging industrial enterprises to find creative ways to control pollutants and urging them to implement environmentally friendly practices in order to increase the rate of compliance with environmental and community protection.

Faisal Ali Al Hammadi, Executive Director of EAD’s Environmental Quality Division, commented: “Today, we are delighted to award the Green Industry Label to Corodex Industries and Bristol Fire Engineering Industries in recognition of their commitment to implementing environmentally friendly practices and their strategy-based planning to maximize Minimizing our environmental impact is key to achieving the UAE’s goal of becoming climate neutral by 2050.”

Committed to improving environmental performance, the 24 organizations are part of the 92 Green Business Network members that implement ongoing initiatives to promote environmentally sustainable practices in the workplace.

EAD launched the Green Business Network program in 2019 as a platform for Abu Dhabi’s public and private sectors to learn, share and encourage environmentally friendly workplace practices. The network works to improve and facilitate communication and collaboration among all members of all disciplines towards best practices related to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
