INPEX sponsors teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi

INPEX CORPORATION (INPEX) announces a Memorandum of Understanding, through its subsidiary Japan Oil Development Co., Ltd. (JODCO), with the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism for the JPY 1 billion sponsorship of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is a cultural venue and experiential art space based on teamLab’s concept of “environmental phenomena”. It was developed by DCT Abu Dhabi in partnership with Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences, and Tokyo-based international art collective teamLab. Construction of the Saadiyat Cultural District in Abu Dhabi is scheduled for completion in 2024.

His Excellency Mohammad Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “The longstanding relationship between the UAE and Japan has spanned generations spanning over half a century. INPEX, through JODCO, is engaged in the development and production of crude oil in the UAE, while contributing to society and the local community through educational, environmental and cultural projects. JODCO celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and plans to strengthen social contribution activities.

As part of this, JODCO will sponsor teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, an experiential art space that will help enrich the UAE’s cultural scene. Going forward, JODCO will seek to implement an official sponsorship agreement after discussing specific terms. With the opening of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, the company intends to invite Emirati youth to the art space to contribute to the development of their curiosity and imagination. The sponsorship program is part of INPEX’s efforts to strengthen its social contribution activities in the UAE, while the INPEX JODCO Foundation was announced on 26 January 2023 and the INPEX Scholarship Foundation announced on 29 July 2022 the launch of a program2 for the Scholarships for UAE students studying in Japan and Japanese students studying in UAE.

INPEX positions Abu Dhabi as one of its core business areas, and will strive to help maintain and strengthen the friendly relationship between the UAE and Japan by actively participating in crude oil development and production and social contribution activities.
