WEST READING, PA – PENN Entertainment, Inc. announced Tuesday that it plans to donate $75,000 over five years to the Reading Hospital Foundation.
This donation aims to support both street medicine and Gwen’s Wardrobe Initiative, two programs dedicated to improving the quality of care for patients and underserved communities in Berks County.
“We are proud to partner with Reading Hospital to support these vital projects to help those in need in our community,” said Eric Schippers, PENN Entertainment’s Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Chairman of the PENN Entertainment Foundation. Reading Hospital is close to our corporate headquarters and we appreciate and have seen first-hand the tremendous care and vital services that Reading Hospital provides.”
The goal of the Street Medicine program is to proactively address health issues and provide primary and preventive care to the homeless, residents of homeless shelters, and those at high risk for homelessness. The program saw a total of 1,861 patient visits in FY2022.
Gwen’s Wardrobe supplies essential clothing to Reading Hospital patients who need a change of clothing damaged by accident or injury. The program ensures that all patients leave the hospital with dignity. Purchased more than 3,000 items of clothing for patients in FY22.
“We are grateful for the support of the Penn Entertainment Foundation,” said Catherine Thornton, chairman of the Reading Hospital Foundation. “With the support of the Street Medicine Program and Gwen’s Closet to provide care and service when our patients need us most, we can ensure our team members are there to help patients when and where they need them. “
Donating to the Reading Hospital Foundation ensures it can help continue to meet the needs of all hospital patients.
