UAE expat turns Sharjah backyard into rose farm, shifts from sugarcane

Siddique Arakkal found his dream home in Fayha three years ago, and now it’s a thriving mini farm. His Sharjah villa boasts diverse plants like plantain, sugarcane, tomatoes, and papaya. The backyard resembles a botanical garden with interwoven flowers and plants, plus a well housing Thilapia fish.

Gardening is Siddique’s stress reliever and family bonding activity. With seven cats, chickens, ducks, and more, his family cares for animals lovingly.

Holidays are scarce due to plant and animal care commitments.

Siddique overcomes space limitations with his gardening passion. Learning from 22 years of UAE plant growth, he’s tackling the temperamental rose.

Preparing for winter, he’ll sow seeds in September for a blossoming garden in November and December.
