UAE project to provide citizens with a host of government services through digital IDs

The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched the first phase of a project called ‘Emirati’ that will allow citizens to use their UAE Pass digital identity to access a number of government services.

Recently launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, ‘Emirati’ is an initiative to provide citizens with an inclusive, accessible, secure and seamless digital platform for services, Report Zawiya.

These services cover various fields and can be accessed through the DubaiNow mobile application on smartphones. Over the years, the app has been upgraded to improve its functionality.

131 services are already available on the platform, with plans to launch two dozen more this month. The second phase of the project will start within the first quarter of 2023.

The Crown Prince likewise directed the Dubai Digital Authority to work with different government ministries, ministries and agencies to load more services on the platform by the end of the year.

“By strengthening Dubai’s digital transformation, we seek to further strengthen the city’s digital economy and deliver innovative smart services that help improve the well-being of all UAE citizens,” Sheikh Hamdan said, as quoted.

According to the government, the launch phase of the project will allow citizens to access various services through digital IDs, such as housing and construction grants, social benefits, Al Furjan activities, Esaad cards for public sector workers, and electricity and water services to name a few.

The report noted that entities that have or are working to add more services to the platform include the Community Development Authority; Dubai Land Department; Police General Command; Ministry of Economy and Tourism; Sports Council; and Arts and Culture Authority, among others.

The initiative is part of the UAE’s digital transformation efforts and part of its plan to make life in Dubai more convenient and comfortable.
