To celebrate the UAE Year of Sustainable Development and in line with the goals of COP28, a new solar park with an installed capacity of 4,382 kWp will be built at Tawazun Industrial Park (TIP) in Abu Dhabi, senior officials said.

More than 7,600 solar panels will be installed for roof and carport applications. Installation will start in the second quarter of 2023 and it is expected to be operational by the end of 2023.

TIP, the industrial development support arm of the Tawazun Council, has signed a solar lease with Yellow Door Energy, a leading corporate sustainable energy partner in the MENA region.

project. TIP Managing Director and CEO Faiz Saleh Al Nahdi and Yellow Door CEO Jeremy Crane signed the deal for the park, which is expected to produce 7.1 million kWh of clean energy in its first year of operation – equivalent to a reduction of 5,000 metric tons of carbon emissions.

Shareef Hashim Al Hashmi, CEO of Tawazun Council and Chairman of TIP, noted that sustainable development is fundamental to the strategy and operations of the council and the park.

“The initiatives taken by TIP to expand the use of renewable energy demonstrate our commitment to support the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategic plan, and our desire to strike a balance between industrial and technological progress and sustainable development,” said Al Hashmi.

Al Nahdi emphasized that the new solar park will increase energy security.

“The 4.4 MW solar lease with Yellow Door Energy will allow us to secure our energy supply through a clean and reliable source of electricity, reduce our electricity bills and contribute to the nation’s 2050 clean energy strategy,” said Al Nahdi .

Crane, chief executive of Dubai-based Yellow Door Energy, said the project celebrates the Year of Sustainability and contributes to the goals of COP28.

“This is our first project in Abu Dhabi and we look forward to providing affordable, reliable and sustainable energy to more businesses in the emirate for many years to come,” added Crane.
