UAE Stocks Slide as Iran Missile Incident Raises Gulf Tensions
The UAE stock market today came under pressure after the UAE reported detecting two ballistic missiles launched from Iran toward maritime traffic.
Abu Dhabi‘s main index fell 0.9% on Wednesday, while Dubai’s index declined 0.3%, according to Reuters. The falls came as investors reacted to growing concerns about regional security and the possible impact on business and trade.
In Abu Dhabi, banks and utilities were among the stocks affected. First Abu Dhabi Bank fell 2.8%, while ADNOC Gas declined 0.9%.
Dubai also saw pressure on major companies. Emirates NBD dropped 3%, while Spinneys fell 1.6%. However, not every stock declined. Parkin Company gained 2.1% after announcing new smart-parking ventures in Egypt.
The market reaction came on the same day the UAE announced that it had suspended all trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran until further notice. Iran has denied launching the missiles, calling the UAE’s accusation baseless.
For investors, the immediate concern is whether the latest escalation will remain limited or lead to wider disruption across the Gulf. Shipping, energy and trade remain closely watched as tensions around the Strait of Hormuz continue.
